Newark Sea Cadets seek support for ambitious new building plans on River Trent and Farndon Road, Newark
An ambitious project has been launched to build a new purpose-built facility as an investment into youth in the community.
Newark Sea Cadets have announced Project Waterfront, which will see a new dedicated space built, capable of delivering a wider range of activities and programs to it’s growing number of cadets.
The proposed new building would be built just off Farndon Road, Newark, to the rear of NCV Sales, with direct access to the River Trent and close to Newark Marina.
It would feature a boat house and slip way attached to the main building, a number of offices, storerooms and classrooms surrounding the main deck, a parade ground and grass field areas bordered by trees, and there would be provision for 19 parking spaces.
The Sea Cadets are a youth organisation dedicated to providing opportunities to young people for personal development and growth.
They offer nautical-themed activities and leadership training, which is aimed at equipping cadets with essential life skills and values.
Currently the Sea Cadets share facilities with other cadet groups on Sherwood Avenue. Project Waterfront would provide the organisation with it’s own headquarters, from which it can continue to expand and build a legacy for the youth of Newark.
Now, the organisation is seeking help from the community to get this transformative project moving, with an invitation to individuals, businesses, and organisations to contribute.
This can be done with financial support, from which donations will directly contribute to the construction of the new facility.
People can also donate their time, with anyone with expertise in construction, project management, or related fields, asked to get in touch to offer guidance or to join a project committee.
Chris Gough, unit chairman, said: "Project Waterfront represents a pivotal moment for Newark Sea Cadets.
“We are not just building a facility; we are creating a legacy that will positively impact generations to come.
“We invite everyone in our community to be part of this journey, whether through financial support, expertise, or joining our dedicated project committee."
Newark Sea Cadets commanding officer, Simon Cullen, said: "As we embark on Project Waterfront, the support of our community is paramount.
“This is an opportunity for individuals and businesses to play a crucial role in the development and success of Newark Sea Cadets.
“We welcome all forms of support and look forward to working together to achieve our vision."
