Farndon care home Red Rose Care Community’s seaside-themed summer celebration brings generations together

A care home welcomed families and friends for a day of summer fun, as its courtyard was transformed into the seaside.

Red Rose Care Community, Farndon, held the Seaside Day on July 25, offering a nostalgic seaside retreat for all generations to enjoy.

The special event included lots of nautical touches, including paddling pools, sandpits, candy floss, ice cream, raffle stalls and even inflatable sea-creature themed balloons.

Families played themed activities and games — pin the tail on the mermaid, hook-a-duck, and tin can alley — and also played in the sand.

Charlotte, an activities coordinator at Red Rose, said: “Dwayne, Red Rose’s other activities coordinator, and I both come from care backgrounds, so we understand the importance of bringing generations together and fostering fun and engagement within our communities.

“Today has been such a special day. It’s always brilliant to see our families and friends come together.”

A particular highlight was a visit from Cupcake the pony, from Pet a Pony, who delighted the crowds with her gentle nature as she spent the afternoon with everyone.

In the lead-up to the event, the Red Rose team decorated the home with special seaside art made in craft sessions. Some of the staff’s young family members helped create the seaside atmosphere by decorating the windows with themed stickers and the residents’ artwork made during the crafts sessions.

Manager Joanne Brown said: “Trips to the seaside were always such a magical time for all of us and often bring back fond memories of family holidays and playing on the beach. As the summer heats up, we thought this was a great way to bring the beach to us and give our home a holiday feel.”

Roger Daniel, cheif executive of Red Homes Healthcare, added: “This event wonderfully showcases our team’s incredible effort and passion. Their hard work and enthusiasm in bringing this vision to life has created a memorable experience for our community and their families.

“It’s always a privilege and a pleasure to see so many smiling faces, and moments like these truly highlight the strong sense of community spirit here at Red Rose.”
