Newark and Sherwood District Council has launched the second round of its popular Community Grant Scheme, offering organisations the chance to apply for up to £20,000 to help deliver projects that will improve the lives of residents.

The deadline for applications is 4pm on Monday, October 28, with awards being made in early 2025.

Paul Taylor, portfolio holder for public protection and community relations at Newark and Sherwood District Council, said: “I am delighted to launch the second round of this year’s Community Grant Scheme. We received some incredible applications during the first round of the scheme that are going to change the lives of our residents and increase the opportunities available to them. We were absolutely delighted to help these groups and look forward to receiving even more applications for exciting transformative projects during round two.

“We know there are more groups and charities out there who we encourage to apply for this second round of funding — this money is for those who may not otherwise be able to access council funds. If you are unsure, please do just contact our amazing community team to discuss — we are here to help and support however we can.”

To be successful, applicants must demonstrate that the project takes place within the district, that there is a local need for it, and how it contributes to one or more of the council's Community Plan objectives. They must also include financial information to support the application.

Extra weighting will be given for projects whose applications can show they:

• Contribute to overcoming the cost-of-living crisis.

• Contribute to public protection by reducing crime or anti-social behaviour.

• Improve biodiversity or contribute to reducing climate change.

The first round of the scheme saw 16 groups benefitting from funding, with eight awards given for Newark-based activities and seven for Sherwood-based groups, with one further award covering a district wide project.

A total of £150,000 will be awarded to successful applicants in 2024-25, with the help of additional funding from the district council’s allocation of the UK Shared Prosperity Fund.

Applicants are encouraged to contact the council's community development team by emailing communityengagement@nsdc.info or calling 01636 650 000 for advice or support with their application.
