Serving up a treat for charity
Cream teas were served at a tea room on Monday to raise around £3,500 for a cancer care centre.
Money raised from the event at the Ollerton Watermill Tea Rooms will go towards building a Maggie’s Centre in Nottingham.
The cream teas were followed by a wine and cheese evening and a silent auction.
Maggie’s Centre, which will cost £3m to build, will provide information, psychological and emotional support and practical advice to cancer sufferers and their families.
The event was organised on behalf of the Park Hospital breast cancer group by Angela Murray (47) of Main Street, Farnsfield, a specialist breast cancer nurse at the Park Hospital, Nottingham, and co-owners of the tea rooms Mrs Kate Mettam and Mrs Ellen Mettam.
Angela Murray said: “We raised more than we thought but it took a lot of hard work.
“We do fund raising most years at the Park Hospital with the breast cancer group and we like it to go to a local charity so this year we chose Maggie’s Centre.
“We decided to hold a day of cream teas because it was something different. In previous years we have held fashion shows and sponsored walks.”
