Newark and Sherwood District Council say there are ‘several innaccuracies’ with Travelling and Gypsy community land sale advert
A council has warned people to be aware of potential planning issues surrounding a plot of land advertised for sale.
Dragon Driving website is advertising an ‘exclusive opportunity’ to acquire Bowbridge 1, on Bowbridge Lane, Balderton - to be specifically used by the Travelling and Gypsy community.
The advert is for a 5.5-acre plot and was said to be for up to 32 individual pitches. Offers over £850,000 are invited.
The advert claims planning permission is not required for static homes, only if day rooms or permanent structures are to be erected, which Newark and Sherwood District Council confirmed to be incorrect
The advert goes on: “The land is currently in the process of being zoned by Newark and Sherwood District Council specifically for use by the Travelling and Gypsy community. The local authority is fully supportive of the proposed use and is prepared to provide advice and guidance to assist any genuine buyer through the process.”
The council confirmed the site as it is one being proposed for allocation in their amended Allocations and Development Management DPD, which looks to identify locations that could be used for Gypsy and Traveller sites to meet housing needs in the district.
A district council’s spokesperson said: “This document is still with the Planning Inspectorate, who will advise on its acceptability, including any changes they may wish to see.
“While the land has been identified in the document, the advert is not one we have been involved in creating.
“There are also several inaccuracies, including ‘planning permission not being required for static homes’, which is incorrect. Planning permission is still required even if a site is allocated.
“We’re working to contact the person who created the advert to make sure the correct information is being provided.”
The advert creator has been approached for a comment.
