Sherwood MP Mark Spencer joins Newark's Robert Jenrick in supporting Rishi Sunak as next Prime Minister
The MP for Sherwood, Mark Spencer, is once again supporting Rishi Sunak in his bid to become the next Prime Minister.
Mr Spencer backed Mr Sunak during the last Conservative Party leadership election in September, although he ultimately lost out to Liz Truss.
However, following the resignation of Liz Truss after just 44 days in charge, Mr Sunak has another chance at securing the top job.
In a short tweet this morning, Mr Spencer wrote: "As last time, I will be supporting Rishi Sunak to be our Party Leader and next PM.
"Rishi has the skills and ability to steer us through unprecedented global challenges."
Rishi Sunak currently looks favourite to take leadership of the Conservative Party and the keys to 10 Downing Street after Boris Johnson withdrew on Sunday evening.
The leader of the House of Commons, Penny Mordaunt is also in the running but requires the backing of at least 100 MPs.
The Sherwood MP has now joined Newark MP Robert Jenrick in publicly supporting Rishi Sunak
Mr Jenrick wrote: "I’m backing Rishi Sunak to be our Prime Minister.
"Rishi will restore public confidence in our party and market confidence in our economy.
"He will unite Conservatives and lead our country with integrity, judgement and competence. #ready4rishi"
