Shop stop for estate concerns

Residents who popped to the shop on Friday had the chance to voice concerns about their estate.

The beat manager for Hawtonville, Pc Lisa Mortimore, the police community support officer for the area, Amanda Wheatcroft, and Mr Terry Bailey, a Newark and Sherwood Homes housing officer, held a surgery outside One Stop, Bowbridge Road, Newark.

The chairman of the Bailey Road and Thoresby Avenue Tenants and Residents’ Association, Mrs Kate Carter, also attended.

The monthly surgeries give residents the chance to raise any problems and for the Safer Neighbourhood team to make sure its priorities for Hawtonville are the same as residents’.

Pc Mortimore said: “We are coming out to the public. People can go to the police station or Safer Neighbourhood meetings but it is quicker and easier to speak to us here for a couple of minutes.”

She said the issues tended to be about anti-social behaviour and litter.

They had also had questions about what to do about a bees’ nest, and a planning matter. If it is not within their remit they pass it on to those responsible.

She said many people had nothing negative to report.

Mr Trevor Parr (47) of Staunton Road, thought the surgeries were a good idea because it made it easier for residents to raise concerns.

Further surgeries will be from 10.30am to 11.30am on October 15 outside the Federation Office, Bailey Road, on November 27 at Chatham Court, and December 4 outside the Co-op, on Churchill Drive.
