A yellow weather warning for snow and ice has been issued by the Met Office.
The warning, which comes into play on Sunday and lasts until Monday, states that heavy snow may affect Newark and most of Nottinghamshire this weekend.
It is believed snow showers in the far north-east of the UK will spread southwards.
It also says adverse weather could possibly result in significant travel disruption.
It noted that power cuts may also occur and other services, such as mobile phone coverage, may be affected.
As well as this, it is warned that untreated pavements and cycle paths might be dangerous or even impassable, posing a greater risk of injuries and accidents.
