A couple will be the only people in Nottinghamshire to open their garden as part of the National Garden Scheme today.

Mr and Mrs Graeme Perks are preparing to open their two-acre garden at the Old Vicarage, Halam Hill, Halam.

Mrs Beverley Perks said: “If a lot of people turn up I might need some extra help.”

The couple have been opening their garden to the public for three years.

Mrs Perks said: “I work so very hard and I wanted to share it with people, which I think is why a lot of people open their gardens.

“It is a big garden so I like to feel it is worth it.”

Mrs Perks said there was plenty for people to see in the garden, which backs on to fields and woodland.

She said: “The cherries are out and they are absolutely lovely and there is clematis and magnolia and there are lots of ground cover plants out.”

The garden will be open from 1pm until 5pm and admission is £3. Teas will be served.

Admission money will go to the scheme, which supports charities including Marie Curie Cancer Care and Macmillan Cancer Support.

Money raised from refreshments will go to St Michael’s Church, Halam.
