Newark and Sherwood Operation Reacher officers do speed checks in Kirton and Little Carlton

Police have started off the year by catching out speeders and seizing untaxed vehicles.

Newark and Sherwood Operation Reacher officers returned to work following a Christmas break and carried out a speeding operation in Kirton and Little Carlton after concerns were raised by residents.

A total of 160 cars were checked with six drivers being given advice about their speed, while seven were issued tickets.

The fastest speed recorded was 56 mph in a 30 mph zone.

Also yesterday, officers arrested two males on behalf of Newark CID wanted for a serious assault on New Year's Eve.

The arrests involved searches and the seizure of clothes and phones linked to the offence.
