Staff at children's home are suspended

By Advertiser Reporter

Six staff at a children’s home that caters for youngsters with severe learning difficulties have been suspended following concerns about the quality of care provided.

Minster View, Southwell, which has 47 staff, provides short breaks for children aged five to 19. There is also a six-bed residential unit for young people aged nine to 19.

The home caters for children and young people with severe learning disabilities and challenging behaviour, many of whom are on the autistic spectrum.

Mr Steve Edwards, service director for youth, families and social work at Nottinghamshire County Council, said an independent review of practice at the home had been commissioned immediately after the concerns were raised.

“The care of vulnerable children is the council’s highest priority and all concerns are treated seriously,” he said.

“In line with standard practice and as a precautionary measure, a number of staff have been asked not to come into work while practice at the the home is reviewed.”

A council spokesman said a full investigation, which included police involvement, was under way. She said the complaints, which involved more than one alleged incident, were not of a sexual nature.

The home remains open but some short-term breaks may be cancelled.
