Former Newark town mayor Laurence Goff is at Market Place fundraising for a war memorial sculpture between Lincolnshire and Nottinghamshire, just off the A46 near Norton Disney
Former town mayor is at a market stall fundraising for a war memorial this weekend.
Laurence Goff, who stepped down from the town mayor position earlier this year, will be at Newark Market Place today and tomorrow, Saturday, September 9 raising funds.
He will be skydiving next summer to raise funds for the Freedom’s Wings project to build a full scale replica sculpture of the iconic Lancaster bomber.
Donations can be made to Laurence’s fundrasing page here: https://www.justgiving.com/page/laurence-goff-1688905419640
The sculpture would be built on the border between Lincolnshire and Nottinghamshire, just off the A46 near Norton Disney, which would stand taller than the Angel of the North.
“This is a memorial for people who lost their lives during the Second World War and I'm honoured to be able to contribute in one way or another as a former mayor of the town,” said Laurence.
He added: “I want people to remember the sacrifice that people when they helped us out during the Second World War and hopefully this memorial will be up in the next couple of years.”
Mr Goff will be at a market stall accepting donations for different items including flags, Robin Hood hats and bracelets.
He will also be at the market stall next Friday, September 15.
