Standstill traffic reported around Newark

Queuing traffic is mounting up around Newark as the summer holiday getaway begins today.

Traffic is at a standstill on the A1 northbound from the Balderton and Claypole turn-off down past the Long Benington exit, as thousands of families take to the roads for the first week of the summer holidays.

The A1 southbound is also seeing delays and queuing traffic from the A46 roundabout and queuing back past North Muskham to the Carlton-on-Trent turn-off.

As expected, the A46 roundabout is seeing queues stretching up the Great North Road past the A616 turn-off, while traffic is at a standstill on the A17 past the turn-off past Long Lane, for Barnby-in-the-Willows.

The A617 Kelham Road is also seeing long queues.
