I wish to respond to C. Hobby’s comments. It is my understanding that it was an NHS decision to exclude all chaplains, not just those from the Church of England, from the highly infectious areas of hospitals, as they could risk compromising strict clinical protocols and also utilise scarce resources of approved PPE.
As far as not allowing our churches to be opened up for private prayer, this was a hard but necessary decision.
Someone would have to do that opening up, remain on the premises for security and disinfect surfaces after visits. For safeguarding reasons, they should not be alone in the building so must be accompanied.
