Stitching in time to create map
A group of keen stitchers have completed a piece of artwork which features prominent buildings in Ollerton such as the Hop Pole Hotel, the Post Office and War Memorial.
Around nine members of the group in the Dukeries branch of the University of the Third Age began stitching the buildings around nine months ago.
They have been mounted on a painted background, which is now framed and on permanent display in Ollerton Jubilee Hall.
Mrs Betty Foster (63) of Retford Road, Boughton, stitched the War Memorial and the Snooty Fox pub which needed an amount of detail.
She said: “It was quite a challenge when we first started it but we were all very pleased with it when it was completed.”
U3A member Mr Brian Pebworth, took photographs of the buildings the group wanted to stitch so they could get the detail correct and constantly refer to it. He also painted the background.
His wife, Mrs Margaret Pebworth (85) of Kirton Park, Kirton, stitched the July cottage, river and bridge. She said the stitching looked three dimensional because they had used stump work.
