To help people protect their trailers and farm equipment and avoid buying stolen goods, the rural crime action team have offered security tips.

Owners are encouraged to purchase their equipment from a person’s home or business address, not from car parks or fields.

They should also carry out checks with companies such as The Equipment Register (TER) or IFOR Williams trailers checking all serial numbers.

Anyone in doubt about the legitimacy of a sale is urged to walk away and alert the police.

If you do purchase a trailer, it is advised to register and insure it, record serial numbers and use security devices such as trackers, locks and CCTV.
