Nearly £7,000 has been raised for a school’s young musicians through a Co-op community fund.

The Minster Junior School, Southwell, was selected to benefit from a percentage of all Co-op-branded products after it was chosen as a local cause.

The school, which has entry criteria based on musical potential, said it would develop its next generation of musicians by providing instruments and accessories.

“By encouraging the musical talent of the children in our community, we create musicians who will continue to bring joy as they develop,” said the school in its submission.

“During the covid-19 outbreak, the enduring memories that gave communities hope were the musicians who sang and played on balconies and on the street, raising the spirits of their neighbours.”

A total of £6,697.86 was raised.
