Inquest of two young men who died in Newark suspended until Nottinghamshire Police concludes investigation
The deaths of two young men - who died suddenly less than 24 hours apart in the same town - could be linked.
Stuart James Hill, known as Stewie, aged 23, and David Dickson, 24, both died within a short space of time in Newark and the authorities are looking at their cases together.
Coroner Laurinda Bower suspended the inquest on March 27 at a pre-inquest at Nottingham City Council while a Nottinghamshire Police investigation continues.
The death of the two men was referred to at the pre-inquest hearing as ‘sudden’ and ‘unexpected’.
Nottinghamshire Police is continuing an investigation into the deaths of the two men, who have no personal connections with one another.
As part of the investigation, it’s hoped that a toxicology report can provide further information on the cause of death.
Coroner Bower suspended her investigation until the police conclude their inquiries.
Despite the two men having separate records, the inquest will be linked together due to the overlap in evidence. Investigations will look for any connections between the two deaths and if any third parties were involved.
Both David and Stuart will be issued a separate final death certificate containing no reference to the other person.
The coroner said that, considering the situation, having the joint inquest was the safest thing to do.
The full inquest is expected to be heard near the end of this year.
