Summons to court for man shopkeeper turned detective to help find

A MAN has been summonsed to court in a case where a businessman turned detective to find someone who allegedly broke his shop window.

Antony Pollard turned detective after vandals smashed a beer glass into the plate glass window of his shop, Dry Clean Plus, on Bargate, Newark.

Two hoody-wearing vandals were seen.

A witness from a neighbouring property saw two young white men approach the shop, one of whom attacked the window.

A closer examination of the crime scene saw Antony spot a fragment of the beer glass used to attack his window.

Recognising it as a Budweiser glass, he tracked down the local pub that served that particular beer and the name of a potential suspect was given.

Newark Police said a man has been reported for summons in relation to criminal damage, which occurred on April 28, and would appear at Nottingham Magistrates' Court on a date to be set.

PC Rob Harrison, Town Centre Beat Manager, said “ This was a real community effort and I am grateful for the assistance of Mr Pollard as well as the public, residents and local businesses in the area who all assisted in the investigation.

"Crime in the town centre will not be tolerated and any offences will be investigated and every effort made to bring offenders to justice.”
