Newark Advertiser reader letter: Superstore plan will not work

I have read on Facebook this morning, your site. re a change at the current Homebase DIY facility, which will change shortly to a Sainsbury superstore.

This will NOT be a success and is not a suitable move. Traffic on Northgate is currently a nightmare.

Go into any of the business car parks and after shopping try to get out of the car park to go home or elsewhere. You will be lucky if you do not have to wait up to 15 mins.

The car parks are normally full during a typical day and the car park at Homebase could not be much smaller, so how is the inevitable increase in traffic going to cope?

I believe M&S has approached the council for traffic lights or a roundabout to be introduced to the joint entrance with B&Q but to no avail.

With the growth, now and in the future, Fernwood will soon need a large supermarket nearby.

From lunchtime today, a Friday, London Road will become a slow, very slow, moving car park. People struggling to go shopping in Newark would be quicker to go to Grantham.

The Greenies could/should have a word with someone regarding this very un-green situation. — Brian Clark, Balderton.
