Reconstructive and aesthetic oncoplastic breast surgeon Mr Tuabin Rasheed visits Newark Breast Cancer Support Group for talk and cheque presentation
A breast cancer support group has been visited by an eminent surgeon, and presented a cheque to help further research and nursing care for the disease.
Reconstructive and aesthetic oncoplastic breast surgeon Mr Tuabin Rasheed visited Newark Breast Cancer Support Group at one of it’s meetings at Newark’s Belvedere Club, where he gave a presentation on his work.
Mr Rasheed, who is based at Nottingham City Hospital and the Park Hospital in Arnold, has treated a number of members of the group and was recalled as a “kind and caring man” who takes great pride in his work.
The surgeon answered members’ questions about his work both in the UK and abroad, and he was then presented with a £500 cheque from the group.
This will be split between the Nottingham Breast Institute, which researches breast cancer, and additional training for breast nurses.
Committee member Karen Mason said: “It was very good for Mr Rasheed to come.
“He said he would like to give some of the cheque towards training breast nurses — to further their training, what with the complexity of breast cancer.
“We all thought that was a very worthwhile cause.”
Newark Breast Cancer Support Group has around 25 members, and meets on the fourth Wednesday of the month at the Belvedere on London Road, Newark.
Anyone needing support and friendship during their breast cancer journey is more than welcome and can contact chairman Elaine Ellison on 01636 706177 or Karen on 07940 771211 to find out more.
The group hosts events such as bag packs to raise funds throughout the year, which goes towards outings and guest speakers for members, to help “make their journey with breast cancer a bit better” and the group also gives back to the community and breast cancer institutions.
