Reader's letter: Surprising result
Like most Newark residents I have used most of the many supermarkets gracing our town. My observations might seem strange to some — they are based on the cleanliness of the carparks and surrounds.
And a big surprise: The supermarkets with the keenest prices are consistently litter and rubbish free. Notably, Iceland (London Road) which tops the list for cleanliness of carpark and surrounds.
The dirtiest is Waitrose, who would like to think they have the high-spend shoppers. Their surrounds appear hardly ever swept with discarded cans, papers and general mess in every corner.
Possibly the Waitrose shoppers, in their expensive vehicles ignore the mess? And, unlike Iceland, Asda and Morrison’s shoppers, few walk to Waitrose!
Hope these observations are of interest to you and your readers. — JOHN TAYLOR, Newark.
