Suspect charged at Nottingham Magistrates Court over Newark ram raid attacks in Jessop Close and Bowbridge Road following Nottinghamshire Police arrest




An alleged ram-raider will be spending the new year behind bars after being charged with a raft of offences.

Kyle O’Connor, 31, was arrested and charged following reports of a burglary and attempted burglary at two business premises in Newark.

It was reported a car was used to reverse into the roller shutters of a unit in Jessop Close before entry was gained during the early hours of December 22.

Police later received a further report that the front door shutters of a store in Bowbridge Road had also been driven into.

A suspect was arrested later that day following police inquiries into the incidents.

O’Connor, of Devon Road, Newark, appeared at Nottingham Magistrates’ Court on Boxing Day charged with burglary and attempted burglary.

He is also facing charges of dangerous driving, criminal damage, assault by beating of an emergency worker, driving without insurance, and driving otherwise than in accordance with a licence — these charges relate to alleged offences committed in the Newark area on December 22.

In addition, O’Connor has been charged with theft of a motor vehicle relating to a report of a car stolen from an address on High Street, Brant Broughton, between December 9 and December 12.

O’Connor has been remanded in custody and is next due to appear at Nottingham Crown Court on January 15, 2024.

Detective Sergeant Ben Skellern, said: “The force treats crimes of this nature extremely seriously and will always do everything it can to seek justice for victims.

"I am pleased we were able to secure charges regarding these serious matters and we now await the outcome through the courts.”
