Take councillors to task over toilets
Once again I am writing about the lack of toilets in Newark town centre.
We are not going to need more parking spaces if shoppers are not coming into Newark because of a lack of toilets.
Perhaps Newark and Sherwood district councillors are hoping that the Asda store will put paid to the demand for toilets.
People do not want to keep popping into a café or pub to use the facilities and be expected to buy a drink.
They do not want to drag their children, pushchairs and shopping through café and pub furniture.
We are told the lack of toilets continues to cause concern and that negotiations are still ongoing.
This has been going on for almost two years now.
How long are these negotiations going to take?
Why are we kept in the dark after constantly asking for information?
I have sent over many letters to town and district councillors.
One district councillor promised to keep me informed of any further developments, but that was over five months ago.
Are we being strung along hoping that this problem will go away?
It is not only the six members of the cabinet who make the decisions, it is all the councillors who we put in power at the last district election.
Let’s fight for what we want our taxes to be spent on.
Talk to your councillor and ask them where they stand.
Let them know the depth of feeling there is on this matter.
