Taste of UK for Estonia
Sausages from a Newark butcher will be served to European ambassadors in Estonia as part of a trip to promote healthier school meals.
Mrs Jeanette Orrey (51) of Staunton has taken 80 Lincolnshire sausages provided by G.H. Porter Provisions on Bridge Street on her visit to Estonia this week.
Mrs Orrey, who is known for her work with TV chef Jamie Oliver and her cookery book, The Dinner Lady, works for the Food For Life Partnership as their school meals policy adviser.
Mrs Orrey will visit four Estonian primary schools to give presentations about the Food For Life Partnership, a network of schools and communities across England committed to transforming food culture.
She said the main emphasis would be about promoting locally produced food and changing the ethos of Estonian schools.
She will attend a reception hosted by the British ambassador in Estonia for which her recipe for toad in the hole, will be made using the Porter’s sausages.
Mrs Orrey left for Estonia on Wednesday accompanied by Mr Tony Aspbury (56) of Millgate, Newark, and will return tomorrow.
Both are vice-presidents of Newark Rugby Club, which has established links with the Estonian Rugby Federation, of which Mr Aspbury is an honorary vice-president.
He has visited the country around 20 times in the past three years to coach in local schools and at Estonia’s leading rugby club, the Tallinn Tigers.
Mr Aspbury suggested Mrs Orrey join the latest trip after hearing that the Estonian Rugby Federation had begun a campaign to promote healthier improve school meals.
All three of Mrs Orrey’s sons, Mr Gareth Orrey (29) Mr William Orrey (23) and Mr Jonathan Orrey (21) have played for Newark Rugby Club.
