Bingham: Teacher at Archbishop Cranmer Church of England Primary Academy, Aslockton, named regional winner in Active School Hero award

A teacher has been named a regional winner in a competition that rewards inspiration in education.

Ell Robinson, of Archbishop Cranmer Church of England Primary Academy, Aslockton, received the Active School Hero award, which celebrates the achievements of those working in primary schools across England who are inspiring a generation to be active.

Ell took the title for the East Midlands for activities that have included rewarding children for reading success with sporting activities, promoting healthy eating, inspiring future Army cadets or instructors with obstacle courses and inspiring tumblers through inflatable fun; much of which was done while children were in lockdown.

She will join other regional winners at an exclusive online celebration event hosted by world-renowned athletes where the overall national winner will be announced.

Archbishop Cranmer head Melanie Stevens said: “Ell is so humble about what she does and while she makes sure every child has chance to show off and be proud in sport, she does it without expecting anything in return — just happy, active kids.

“She promotes active and healthy minds and makes sure the children know that being active makes them feel good about themselves and that is something that is really special.

“Ell ensures every single child in school has the opportunity to feel proud in sports activities and even celebrates sporting achievements the children do out of school.

“She makes sure every ability, every body shape, every child finds something they can do and makes sure they know what progress they make. She tracks personal best so children of all abilities have sporting success.

“We really live out everything we say we do and since I nominated Ell she has done even more — in spite of children being isolated and away from school.

“Every day, every child in our school is active.”

Active School Hero was created by ukactive and is delivered in partnership with Nike to celebrate the achievements of heroes working in primary schools.

Every staff member nominated will have an opportunity to receive exclusive sporting experience for their schools, attend a professional development workshop with international experts, receive an exclusive Nike kit and inspiration from a Nike athlete ambassador.
