A team of footballers from Lowe’s Wong Junior School, Southwell, were crowned the best in the district after winning in a tournament at Newark Flowserve.

The team won the Newark and District Primary Schools’ Autumn Football Tournament on Saturday for the first time in five years.

Newark and Sherwood District Council and Bowbridge Primary School, Newark, organised the event.

It featured schools from Newark, Balderton, Coddington, Collingham, Farndon, North Muskham and Southwell.

Lowe’s Wong were unbeaten throughout the tournament and never conceded a goal.

They played four games in the group stage, winning two and drawing two, before beating Holy Trinity Primary School, Newark, 1-0 in the quarter-final.

It took an extra-time goal to beat Bishop Alexander Primary School, Newark, in the semi-final before they scored four against Hawtonville Junior School, Newark, in the final.
