Teenager, 17, arrested following lengthy investigation into burglary at Southend Avenue, Newark, in 2019
A 17-year-old has been arrested on suspicion of burglary after a car and other items were taken from a house in Newark.
It was reported the offender entered the house via the top floor window and stole the car keys.
A wallet, purse and phone was also taken from a house on Southend Avenue overnight on September 6, 2019.
Detective Sergeant Andy Hall is leading the investigation. He said: "This has been a very lengthy investigation, but we are pleased that a teenager has now been arrested in connection with the incident.
"The 17-year-old boy will remain in police custody for questioning. I'd like to praise officers for their continued hard work on this case.
"The vehicle was recovered in Skegness in September, however the other items are still outstanding.
"Nottinghamshire Police take reports such as this very seriously and will always proactively and thoroughly investigate reported incidents and work hard to make arrests.
“I would like to take this opportunity to remind members of the public to be vigilant. Burglary is usually an opportunist offence with burglars looking for the easiest way of getting into your home without being seen or disturbed.
“Many burglaries happen because a door has been left unlocked or window has been left open, which is really an open invitation for burglars. We can’t stress enough how important it is to make sure your front and back doors are locked and your windows are closed and locked, even when you’re in the house.”
