Teens deny troublemaker label

Teenagers claim gangs of youths who gather in Southwell have been unfairly branded as troublemakers.

Three pupils from The Minster School attended a meeting of Southwell Town Forum on Tuesday to give their views on issues affecting young people.

Anna Jevons, 16, said large groups congregated on War Memorial Recreation Ground because they had nowhere else to go.

She said often people assumed a large group of young people on the recreation ground were causing anti-social behaviour.

But, she said, trouble was often caused by only a very small group.

The chairman of Southwell Town Council, Mr Andy Gregory, said they realised it was a small minority of youngsters who created problems.

He said: “When you have got a big group on the recreation ground there are going to be one or two of that group who are going to cause trouble and you all get tarred with the same brush.”
