Newark MP Robert Jenrick opens Newark Tennis Club's new court
Newark Tennis Club celebrated the opening of a new court on Saturday.
Newark MP Robert Jenrick was on-hand to cut the ribbon at the club's base, off London Road, Newark, which began a celebratory tournament at the club.
The opening of the club's fourth hard court means there are now six courts in total — four hard and two grass.
Club secretary Sara Jackson said the juniors, who enjoyed a fun tennis activities session on the day, were really pleased with the new area.
"We had around 20 juniors of all different ages playing in a mini tournament to kick things off and they all won a certificate at the end," said Sara.
"Robert Jenrick then official opened the court with a cake and ribbon cutting.
"He stayed for a while after to talk to us about tennis, the land we use and that kind of thing.
"Robert was great. He said his three daughters all played tennis and that he had a lot of enthusiasm for the sport, so it was a lovely.
The seniors also played a tournament, making use of all six courts.
