The Wonderful Wizard of Oz to illuminate the skies above the Trent Bridge in Nottingham
A drone light show inspired by The Wonderful Wizard of Oz is set to illuminate the skies above Nottingham.
For one night only, Trent Bridge will transform into a stage for hundreds of illuminated drones, bringing Dorothy and her iconic companions to life in a 45-minute spectacle.
The event, set to take place on Saturday, March 15, will be the latest collaboration between drone art specialists Celestial and experiences platform Yuup.
Visitors will follow Dorothy’s journey through the skies, with the playful Munchkins, the Tin Man, the Scarecrow, and the Cowardly Lion brought to life through intricate drone displays.
Attendees can also expect an extensive food village and stadium entertainment to enjoy before and after the show itself.
Trent Bridge commercial director, Michael Temple said: “The Wonderful Wizard of Oz is an epic drone storytelling spectacle, and we’re hugely proud to be bringing this UK tour to the people of Nottingham.
“While we can confidently expect calm skies in April, ourselves, Celestial and Yuup would like to reassure all new and returning visitors that if weather conditions mean the show cannot fly on the advertised date, all ticket holders will be offered a full refund or the opportunity to attend a reserve date.
“We look forward to welcoming the drone pilots, and all those watching their incredible work, back to Trent Bridge.”
The Trent Bridge gates will open at 5:15pm, with the drone light show starting at 7:15pm.
Early bird tickets are now on sale at www.yuup.co/wizard-of-oz, priced at £17.00 for adults and £12.00 for children and concessions.
These discounted rates will be available until January 31, after that, general release tickets will be £23.00 for adults and £18.00 for children and concessions.
Organisers have reassured ticket holders that if weather conditions prevent the show from taking place on March 15, a full refund or alternative date will be offered.
Dominic Mills, founder of Yuup said: “Audiences are always looking for new and exciting ways to consume entertainment, and drone light shows are just that.
“We are the first to bring storytelling in this form and length to audiences around the UK, with our show lasting 45 minutes, compared to a typical drone light show of 8-12 minutes.
“We’re hugely excited to be partnering with Celestial to bring this great performance to Nottingham."
Drone light shows have gained popularity in recent years as an innovative form of entertainment, merging cutting-edge technology with artistic storytelling.
Celestial has delivered over 20 performances across the UK, captivating more than 85,000 audience members.
John Hopkins, Celestial’s founder added: “The Wonderful Wizard of Oz is a beloved tale that has been endlessly retold across various genres.
“This time, it is uniquely presented through drone art, elevating it beyond a traditional drone light show to an epic, stadium-scale experience.
“This innovative artistic medium brings audiences together through a shared sense of wonder to celebrate a universal story of human strength and belonging.”
