The Newark Indian restaurant which could be named the best in the East Midlands
A Newark Indian restaurant could be named the best restaurant in the East Midlands at a national awards ceremony next month, once again shining a national spotlight on the high quality of Indian food available in Newark.
The Ashiana Indian & Bangladeshi Restaurant at North Muskham has been shortlisted for the Restaurant of the Year, East Midlands title at the Asian Restaurant and Takeaway Awards 2022 (ARTA).
Ashiana is up for the award alongside three other highly-regarded restaurants in the East Midlands — Little India at Arnesby, The Spice Lounge at Higham Ferrers and Taste of India at Rothwell. But owner, Sail Miah, has his fingers crossed that the Ashiana will bring home another trophy for their cabinet.
“The Ashiana is not just a restaurant, it’s a family and we genuinely believe that this is key to our success." said Sai.
"We are family owned and run but our valued customers are also part of the Ashiana family. They have supported us through the difficulties of the last few years and continue to support the Ashiana as all hospitality businesses struggle in the current economic climate.
We are so very grateful to them and they are always at the heart of everything we do here at the Ashiana,”
The ARTA awards celebrate Britain’s vibrant Asian restaurants and takeaways and offer support to the industry which is currently facing the challenges of high energy costs, inflation and the lasting impact of the pandemic.
The competition's organisers say more than 2,370 restaurants and takeaways across the UK were nominated.
According to the organisers, each restaurant is given a 'customer nomination score' that includes three key factors: quality of food, quality of service, and value for money.
This is followed by the ARTA score, which includes the food hygiene rating and reviews from websites such as TripAdvisor and Google. Restaurants that made it through the first phase were invited to participate in a cook-off competition, and were given a score based on factors including flavour, appearance, texture and aroma.
Speaking about the Asian Restaurant and Takeaway Awards 2022, Mohammed Munim, founder member and chief executive of ARTA, said: “Britain has some of the most vibrant and dynamic Asian restaurants. They are an integral part of the fabric and culture of the country.
"The ARTA awards are a celebration and recognition of these exceptional restaurants, takeaways, chefs, and restaurateurs all across the country, who are serving their local communities so exceptionally well. Each nominee is a worthy winner, and we look forward to celebrating with them all at the award ceremony.”
The winners will be announced at a red carpet event at the InterContinental Hotel at The O2 London on Sunday, October 2.
The Ashiana has been family owned and run since 2009 and is no stranger to winning, having won at the Curry Life Awards, the English Curry Awards and it has been a finalist at the British Curry Awards.
