Newark Police arrest three men after incident in College Close, Newark
Three men have been arrested following a violent incident where a man was reportedly run over by a car.
Newark police officers attended College Close at around 6pm yesterday (July 17) following reports an argument had escalated to the point where a knife was allegedly brandished during the dispute.
One of the people involved was driven at and hit with a car twice, leaving him with head injuries.
Three suspects were detained at the scene, with one of them punching another in the face while they were being led away by officers.
Two men, aged 18 and 40, were both subsequently arrested on suspicion of attempting to cause grievous bodily harm.
The 18-year-old was additionally arrested on suspicion of assault and obstructing police, and a 30-year-old man was also arrested on suspicion of possessing a knife in public.
Detective Constable Tom Flint, of Nottinghamshire Police, said that the force takes “a very firm stance” on any violent or aggressive behaviour:
“This was a completely unacceptable incident that could’ve quite easily resulted in very serious injury,” he said.
“While everyone involved was extremely fortunate that the man hit by the car wasn’t more seriously hurt, they would’ve had no way of knowing that when they did what they did.
“Our hope is that the rapid and robust response of the officers involved and the triple arrest that subsequently followed properly illustrates this point.”
