Corner Farm Kitchen café and farm shop to open doors on Northgate, Newark, championing fresh food and local produce
A woman’s ‘big dream’ has come true, as she prepares to open a café and farm shop in town this weekend.
Family-run business Corner Farm Kitchen is open the doors to its new permanent location in Newark tomorrow (July 5).
Based in a fully-renovated unit at 17 Northgate, alongside Charles Hanson’s The Auction Room, Newark, it will serve fresh, homecooked, British cuisine, made with locally-produced ingredients.
Headed by Linsay Rouston-Turner and her daughter Paige Rouston-Turner, the new café is the result of three years of hard work and Linsay’s passion for supporting small businesses and shopping local.
Linsay said: “My big dream was always to open a café and farm shop.
“We got tagged on Facebook about this space — we never planned to start this year, but I could visualise it straight away.”
Corner Farm Kitchen began in 2022 when Linsay began home schooling her autistic son, and so began baking at home with him.
Then, they began selling their bakes to friends and family and on Facebook — and after gaining popularity, decided to expand into catering and birthday cakes.
Paige then left her job in a care home to join the Corner Farm Kitchen team, and the family team also began selling at farmers markets and shows across Nottinghamshire and neighbouring counties.
Now, they’ve taken on their first physical venue in their hometown, turning what was a basic brick warehouse space into a welcoming and cosy café.
Paige said: “We’ll be serving things like ploughman’s, cheeseboards, bubble and squeak.
“On the breakfast menu there’s a black pudding benedict with local black pudding, house-made granola, locally sourced sausage and bacon — and we’ll be doing home-made potatoes rather than frozen hash browns.
“We want to offer a locally sourced British menu, and we want to be affordable.”
As well as their stock of produce from nearby farms and sellers — including vegetables, butter, ice cream, and Belvoir drinks — the farm shop side of the business will showcase crafters, artists, and more, from Newark and surrounding areas in its ‘rent a shelf’ area.
“Through doing all the markets we’ve got a really good network of friends,” Linsay added.
“So we’ve invited them in to our ‘rent a shelf’.”
The café also won the recent competition by Newark-based podcast Girl and a Gay UK, to be the small business showcased by the hosts Mia Bainbridge and Robbie Cooper.
Robbie’s brand Sweetiz is also featured in the farm shop’s ‘rent a shelf’.
Corner Farm Kitchen will initially be open seven days a week, is dog friendly, and offers a range of gluten free, vegan, vegetarian, and dairy free options.
