Reader's letter: Time for thanks
Volunteers’ Week takes place June 1-7, every year. Established in 1984, and now in its 37th year, it recognises the contribution of the millions of people who volunteer in their communities across the UK as well as raising awareness about the benefits of becoming a volunteer and the diverse volunteering roles that are available.
This year the theme of Volunteers’ Week is ‘A Time To Say Thanks’ and it marks the beginning of #MonthofCommunity, culminating in Thank You Day on July 4.
At Newark and Sherwood CVS, we want to take the time to celebrate the volunteers who have helped us during the last 12 months and also those who usually volunteer but were not able to because of the pandemic.
It’s time to say thanks for the very special contribution made by each and every one of our volunteers during this exceptionally difficult year, from our own trustees to our vaccination volunteers to our drivers to our befrienders.
Volunteers are always active at the heart of our community.
Covid-19 has raised the profile of volunteering so more people than ever are now aware of the immense contribution being made every single day by volunteers.
It also increased the need for volunteers and the community answered the call.
So, in this, a year which has made volunteering history, it’s definitely time for us to say our heartfelt ‘thanks’. #VolunteersWeek — JANE HILDRETH, Newark CVS.
