Reader’s letter: Time to call an election

Regarding the recent Labour and Independent defections at Newark and Sherwood District Council.

I note that two members — one from Labour and one Independent — have recently defected to the Green Party, despite running on different manifestos and pledges.

Do they believe they should now hold a by-election and allow the residents to decide if they still want them under their new banner?

I also note this is the second defection from the Independent party. It looks like they’re in a bit of bother.

It’s only fair to give the residents a choice.

It’s time to resign, call an election, and see if the residents still support you. - M. POTTER, Newark.
