Time to reflect
The silence at 11am in Newark Market Place today will be led by members of the Royal British Legion.
If you are out shopping or on business, show your respects by joining them.
With an inevitably declining number of veterans taking part in remembrance events it is more important than ever that youngsters realise the importance of them.
Local schools are playing a vital role in that. Around 200 primary pupils took part in a service at Newark Parish Church on Monday at which wreaths were laid and the Last Post played.
The Rector of Newark, the Rev Vivian Enever, said the children showed great dignity in the way they laid their wreaths.
They should take credit from that and be applauded for their attitude and behaviour.
Some of them could be among those who ensure the nation continues to feel so strongly about remembrance.
We live in an increasingly fast-paced world in which every day pressures seem to grow more and more intense.
Those personal pressures will remain but at this time of year we have an opportunity to reflect on the bravery and sacrifice of past and present generations involved in conflicts then and now.
