Christmas is one of the most wonderful times of the year but it can also be one of the worst for waste.
Now Newark and Sherwood District Council have offered advice on small changes that everyone can make so that Christmas becomes more sustainable.
Tips for a cleaner, safer and greener Christmas include:
- Gift loved ones with more sustainable choices such as house plants, days out together or handmade gifts.
- Dyed, laminated, glittery plastic wrapping cannot be recycled. You can swap to more sustainable options like brown paper, a gift bag that can be reused, or even fun fabric you can find at local charity shops.
- Recycle old Christmas cards by cutting them into gift cards that you can use next year. Not only is it more sustainable but it’ll save time and money next year.
- Shop with local retailers, many independent businesses offer more sustainable gifts.
