Christmas is a time of indulgence, but this can lead to a lot of food waste as quite often our eyes can be bigger than our stomachs.
Newark and Sherwood District Council have shared some tips on how to reduce food waste this festive season.
These tips include:
- Using Christmas leftovers in recipes that can be frozen and enjoyed later.
- Organising fridges and freezers in preparation for all the Christmas food that will be bought, so that it will be easier to track what is needed.
- If living with friends, share an evening meal together rather than all cooking separately.
- Make a shopping list before heading out to the supermarket to avoid the temptation of adding extra items to the trolley.
- Plan weekly food shops to reduce the number of visits to the shop and in turn reducing the number of extra items bought each time.
