The National Civil War Centre was taken over by toddlers as part of the Kids in Museums Takeover Day scheme

There was a Toddler Takeover at the National Civil War Centre, Newark on Friday.

Children could try their hand at a variety of jobs, including marketing officers, curators and even archaeologists digging for dinosaurs as part of the nationwide Kids in Museums Takeover Day scheme.

Each toddler received a sticker for every job they attempted, and at the end of the day got a certificate.

In 2017 the National Civil War Centre had a teenager takeover day, but this was the first toddler takeover.

Head of learning Sarah Clarke said: “All of our museum jobs have been taken over by toddlers.

“Museums have a takeover day every year. We wanted to encourage really young children to come to show them museums are fun.”

Kayleigh Margreaves, who was there with her daughter said: “It’s just a really lovely way to get children involved and learn all about the roles in the museum.”

From February, there will be a soft play session at the museum every Monday, from 11am to noon.
