These 9th Newark Scouts have earned their Chief Scout Gold Award, the highest award in Scouting
Two Scouts from 9th Newark have earned their Chief Scout Gold Award.
Mia Watson and Jared Rasen, both 13, completed their award — the highest in the Scout section — after taking part in three years of Scouting adventures.
They completed challenge awards and interest badges, including camps and hiking expeditions.
During their journey, Mia and Jared gained outdoor cooking skills on open fires and stoves, team building, leadership skills, and tried activities that challenged them physically and emotionally.
Learning to map read and navigate a planned route were significant parts of the Scout programme leading towards their expedition.
Many more activities are included in the programme.
Mandy Twinn, a leader with 9th Newark Scouts, said: “Mia and Jared are a wonderful example of Scouting methods, they try new things, help others, and have great fun.”
