Tourist guides go global
Four new tourism guides promoting Newark and Sherwood have been produced by the district council.
The 2009 tourism guides include information on accommodation, eating out, things to do, and sight-seeing.
The pamphlets cost the council £14,000 to produce and 45,000 have been printed and circulated. They were launched at The Gilstrap Centre, Castlegate, Newark.
The council produces new guides every year.
The council’s tourism and rural services manager, Mr John Briggs, said: “This is the first time we have put a star rating alongside accommodation, and the sight-seeing guide doubles as the things to do guide when you flip it over.”
The guides are available at tourist information centres throughout the county.
Copies have also been sent to countries including South Africa and Australia.
The council leader, Mr Tony Roberts, said: “The tourism economy is very important to the district.
“These guides give people the information they need and they can take it as and when they want it.”
