Bingham Town Council welcomes representatives from Wallenfels in Germany to celebrate 40 years of twin town friendship
A town has celebrated 40 years of twinning friendship with a special visit from their German counterparts.
In September, Bingham Town Council hosted a civic reception to welcome Jens Korn, the Burgermeister from Bingham’s twin town of Wallenfels in Germany.
Members of the Twinning Association and guests attended the reception, and entertainment was provided by the talented Thomas Markwick of Bingham.
The Mayor of Bingham Gareth Williams welcomed Jens Korn to the stage to present gifts to mark the 40 years. Jens then presented a Rafters Hook to the town council and chairman of the Twinning Association, Judith Swann, which will be displayed at the Old Court House.
The Wallenfels band also visited Bingham to play in the Market Place before the main event of the town’s Beer Festival at the start of the month.
Mayor Williams said “As a long-standing member of the Twinning Association I was delighted to welcome over 30 visitors to Bingham from our Twinned Town of Wallenfels.
“I would like to thank the Burgermeister, Jens Korn and all of our friends who visited the town for their music, and friendship.
“I would also like to thank the Twinning Association for their dedication to maintaining our bond with Wallenfels and to the hosts that make our guests welcome in their homes”.
Chair of Twinning, Judith Swann said “We had a really good weekend with our friends from Wallenfels.
“Our Bavarian Beer Festival was very successful and many from the community attended.
“We sincerely thank the town council for hosting a civic reception to mark 40 years of Twinning which was appreciated and enjoyed by all”
