Newark’s first Repair Cafe at Coreset hosted by Newark Borrow and Repair Group said to be a success

A community-led initiative’s first-ever repair café said to be a ‘success’ as everyone left the premises ‘fulfilled and happy’.

The Newark Borrow and Repair Group hosted its first repair cafe at Coreset, on Friary Road, Newark on Saturday (October 18).

From 12.30pm to 3pm, a number of items were fixed on site, including bikes, radios, lamps, hoovers, clothes and jewellery.

The event was completely free; however, people were able to leave donations, which will support future repair sessions.

The Repair Café was conceived by community volunteers from Newark Borrow and Repair Group, and is a partnership between Newark College, Coreset and St Mary’s Church.

Penny Taylor MBE, headteacher of Newark Campuses, said: 'We are delighted with the amount of people that attended the first Repair Cafe in Newark.

“Our college's purpose focuses on ways we can support the community through giving back and learning, and today embodied all of that.

“Working alongside our community partners provided learning through each other, laughter and a sense of pride, with everyone leaving fulfilled and happy.”
