Weekend London travel shake-up as engineering works hit Grantham to Huntingdon line, south of Newark
Engineering work is set to cause disruption to rail journeys between Newark and London this weekend.
Scheduled for February 10 and 11, engineering works will necessitate the closure of all lines between Grantham and Huntingdon, prompting significant alterations to train services, particularly those operated by London North Eastern Railway (LNER).
Southbound services will terminate at Grantham, while Northbound services from London Kings Cross will not run past Huntingdon, near Peterborough, as major upgrades are set to take place along the East Coast Mainline.
Rail replacement coaches will facilitate connections between Grantham and Huntingdon, where shuttle rail services will run to London Kings Cross.
Additionally, customers are advised that information screens may not accurately display calling points due to Huntingdon not being a regular stop for LNER services during this period.
Other affected train operators include Grand Central, Great Northern, Hull Trains, Lumo, and Thameslink, with alterations to services ranging from diversions to replacement bus services.
Hull Trains will divert all services to London St Pancras International, skipping stops at Beverley, Cottingham, Doncaster, Retford, Grantham, and Stevenage.
For those travelling with LNER trains to and from Northern England and Scotland will be rerouted to start and terminate at Grantham instead of London Kings Cross.
Passengers are urged to plan their journeys carefully, using resources such as the National Rail Enquiries Journey Planner to stay informed about service alterations and replacement bus travel advice.
Additionally, travellers should anticipate potential congestion on replacement vehicles and allow extra time for their journeys to account for any delays or changes to their usual routes.
