Hannah Needham-Parker launched the petition, saying: “The crash barriers would help prevent vehicles from crashing into the river if the vehicle slips on the road during bad weather.

“Please sign this petition to make sure that something as horrific as this never happens again.”

Factors surrounding Mrs Fegan death are still being investigated.

Mrs Fegan, a mother of two, was head of science at the Dukeries Academy, Ollerton.

Principal Claire Leitheiser said: “Emma was a member of The Dukeries Academy community for 17 years where she was a beloved friend and colleague.

“Emma led the science department with a determination to provide all students with the best experience of science possible.

“She was a teacher who was well respected by staff and students alike and she was instrumental in supporting our young people in achieving their ambitions for the future.

“Emma will be sorely missed by all at The Dukeries Academy. Our sincerest condolences go to her family and friends.”
