Two arrested after A1 lorry fuel theft near Cromwell
Two men were arrested on the A1 after police responded to reports of a fuel theft in progress.
Response officers were called to a layby near Cromwell shortly after midnight on Friday morning when two suspects were reported to be siphoning fuel from one lorry to another.
They arrived on the scene as the suspect lorry was pulling away and immediately pulled it over.
Two men, aged 49 and 24, were arrested on suspicion of theft and investigations remain ongoing.
Inspector Katie Eustace, of Nottinghamshire Police, said: “This was an excellent response from the officers involved who arrived swiftly on the scene before this lorry could drive away.
“Thefts of this nature present significant costs to hauliers and will always be dealt with robustly. On this occasion we were able to detain two suspects and also recover some significant physical evidence.”
