Two knives recovered after arrests in Newark
Police arrested two people and recovered two knives after receiving reports of a disturbance in Newark.
Officers were called to Cartergate after being told that a man had made threats towards a member of the public in the street.
A 22-year-old man was detained at the scene and a knife was recovered. He was arrested on suspicion of affray and possession of a bladed article.
A 15-year-old boy was arrested a short time later on suspicion of possessing a bladed article and another knife was recovered.
Both suspects were later released under investigation.
Inspector Matthew Ward, of Nottinghamshire Police, said: “Although incidents like this are thankfully rare in Newark, we take all reports of knife crime extremely seriously and were very quickly at the scene.
“There is no excuses for going out armed with a knife and people who chose to do so will be dealt with positively and robustly by the legal system.
“I am pleased this incident was successfully and peacefully resolved and would like to thank the officers involved for their work.
“I urge anyone with any additional information about this incident—or about anyone else who may be in possession of a knife—to call us on 101.”
