Bulky waste collection services resume in Newark and Sherwood and Rushcliffe, but with restrictions
A scaled-down bulky waste service has been introduced in Newark and Sherwood to provide support to residents until tips reopen to the public.
Residents can make bookings for up to six items to be collected from their property for disposal.
Bulky waste collections will be at a reduced rate of £5 an item.
While operatives will only have capacity to deal with a small number of jobs per day, it is hoped the reintroduction will reduce the levels of fly-tipping incidents, which have had a 61% weight increase across the district.
Residents are asked to call the district council’s customer services on 01636 650000 to make a booking and take payment.
To protect residents and waste crews, customers will be asked to confirm if they are self-isolating.
Operatives will not interact with residents and will be unable to collect items from inside a house or back garden.
Each item should be left in front of a property for 72 hours before collection as Government guidance on social distancing remains.
This is continually being reviewed with particular consideration for the safety of staff and residents.

The leader of the council, David Lloyd, said: “We are constantly reviewing our services, considering factors such as safe methods of working, government guidelines and the availability of colleagues, however we are now in a position to re-instate a limited bulky waste and white goods collection service and ask that residents bear with us as our operatives try to support as many people as possible.
“We realise that any postponement of front line services has a detrimental effect on our residents and are concerned with the increase in fly-tipping incidents.
“We continue to ask residents to be vigilant and report anyone dumping rubbish illegally.
“We are hopeful that the county council recycling centres will be in a position to re-open to the public in the near future, however in the meantime we have re-instated and reduced the fee of our bulky waste collection service to support residents with any waste management issues they currently have.”
Garden waste (brown bin) collections remain temporarily suspended.
With up to 13,000 customers using the service, it cannot be re-instated while the Government guidance on social distancing remains in place. This is continually being reviewed with particular consideration for the safety of staff and residents.
Bulky waste collections resume on Saturdays in Rushcliffe from this weekend as part of Rushcliffe Borough Council’s plans to deliver as many refuse collection services as possible.
Large items of furniture, mattresses and other large household items can be collected by calling 0115 981 9911 only with online booking available again as soon as possible.
Residents are asked to be patient to book a collection for the service as it is anticipated the service will be popular and will be asked to clarify the items requested to be collected before a booking is confirmed in line with the authority’s standard charges.
Large electrical items can be collected by Streetwise Environmental Services by calling 0115 914 8408.
Residents should always use a reputable licensed waste carrier for disposal of any waste from their homes and request to see the relevant documentation from the Environment Agency before agreeing to use a service.
