Two teens detained and collected by parents after reports of boys shooting firearm in River Trent at Newark this morning




Two teens have been detained after boys were spotted shooting an air rifle from a dinghy in the River Trent at Newark this morning.

They were detained within 20 minutes following the report at around 9.45am, before their parents were called to collect them.

Police have described the incident as a wildlife offence.

Officers continue with their investigation and have asked anyone with information to come forward.

Newark Police Constable Archie Fogg said: “Wildlife offences are a priority in Newark. As such, a number of officers were quickly in the area detaining the individuals responsible.

“Nottinghamshire Police will always thoroughly investigate such a offences with a view to taking appropriate action against offenders.

“I would appeal to anyone who may have seen something suspicious in the area at the time to report it to Nottinghamshire Police on 101 quoting incident number 131 of 14 April 2021.”
